🚨 UPDATE: FEDERALLY INDICTED — April 11, 2025
Well, folks, we called it. What started as a campaign finance hustle — inventing a fake woman named “Jeanne Louise” to launder dark money into a smear mailer — turned out to be just the tip of the iceberg. On April 11, 2025, the federal government finally showed up with the handcuffs that Massachusetts Democrats refused to provide.
State Representative Christopher Flanagan, Democrat of Dennis, was indicted by a federal grand jury on five (5) counts of wire fraud and one (1) count of falsification of records. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, this “representative of the people” allegedly spent years stealing money from the Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Cape Cod — the very trade organization that employed him and trusted him — and used those stolen funds to pay his personal mortgage, pay down his credit cards, and fund his own political campaign.
Read that again. He allegedly stole from his employer and used the money to get elected. The swamp isn’t just in Washington, D.C., people. It’s right here in Dennis, Massachusetts.
The Alleged Fraud: A Timeline of Betrayal
According to the federal indictment, the alleged scheme began around October 2021. Flanagan was reportedly facing personal financial difficulties. Instead of tightening his belt like every working-class Cape Codder has to do, he allegedly helped himself to funds from the Home Builders Association that trusted him as their Executive Officer.
When the HBA Board started asking questions in May 2024, Flanagan allegedly concocted a cover story — claiming he had withdrawn funds for legitimate business expenses. He allegedly submitted two fabricated expense reports. The first claimed $159.36 in “Technology Expenses.” The second claimed $3,700+ in additional invented costs. His own bank statements reportedly told a very different story.
And remember “Jeanne Louise”? The fictional conservative woman he invented for the 2022 campaign mailer? The feds say Flanagan also obstructed the Massachusetts OCPF investigation by doubling down on the lie — only admitting in October 2023 that she never existed. He had previously described her physical appearance to state investigators. He made up a fake person, gave her a name, and described what she looked like. That takes a special kind of audacity.
What the Feds Said
U.S. Attorney Leah Foley called it an “appalling breach of public trust.” U.S. Postal Inspection Service and IRS Criminal Investigations agents joined in announcing the arrest. These are not political operatives. These are federal law enforcement officers doing the job that Massachusetts Democrats and the Beacon Hill establishment refused to do.
Each count of wire fraud carries a potential sentence of up to 20 years in federal prison. That’s potentially over a century of combined exposure — for a man still collecting a taxpayer-funded state paycheck while under federal indictment.
The “Flim Flam” Origins: Campaign Finance Fraud (2022)
Before he graduated to federal wire fraud allegations, Flanagan was caught in a more “modest” scheme. During the 2022 election cycle, he created a fake front group called “Conservatives for Dennis” and invented a fictional woman — “Jeanne Louise” — as the supposed organizer. The mailer from this fake group praised Flanagan for his “honesty and integrity” and encouraged voters to vote for the person, not the party. You genuinely cannot make this up.
The Massachusetts OCPF fined him. He paid. He expressed regret. He kept his seat. The Sandwich Republican Town Committee unanimously demanded his resignation. The Brewster Select Board called for his resignation. Governor Healey called for his resignation. He refused — because when you’re a Democrat in the one-party state of Massachusetts, Beacon Hill has your back. Right up until the FBI shows up at your door.
Still In Office. Still Drawing a Taxpayer Paycheck.
As of this writing, Flanagan has not resigned from the Massachusetts House of Representatives. He is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law — that is the American way, and we respect it. But ask yourself: If this were a Republican facing a six-count federal indictment, how long would the Massachusetts media and Democratic leadership wait before demanding immediate removal? The double standard in one-party Massachusetts politics is a scandal all by itself.
The people of the 1st Barnstable District deserve a representative focused on their roads, their schools, and their cost of living — not one calculating which fake expense report will best conceal their personal mortgage payments. Chris Lambton has launched a campaign for this seat. The voters of Cape Cod will have the final word.
All charges in the federal indictment are allegations. Christopher Flanagan is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
